Profile One:

Student Connie Stahl has joined the Certificate Three in Catering Operations after working in various casual positions in the Hospitality Industry and discovering her flair for Catering. Connie has completed her HSC and is engaged to who Connie describes as “her best friend from school”.
Naturally Connie has a passion for cooking but also enjoys reading and singing.
She describes the course as fun and challenging.
“I have met some great teachers and students” Connie says. Many of the younger students appreciate the support that Connie offers them creating a dynamic team especially on days when the students host the Bellbird CafĂ© at Wyong TAFE.

Profile Two:

One of the youngest students in the Catering Operation Certificate Three , Robert O’Brien left school in 2008. Robert aims to become a Chef and his goal is to find an apprenticeship and eventually complete his studies in commercial cookery at Ourimbah TAFE. Robert feels that the course will make him more attractive as a potential apprentice.
Robert describes himself as outgoing, confident and friendly. “I am learning new things daily and the people are really nice”.

Profile Three:

Michelle O’Haire discovered a new passion for food and wanted to be able to turn it into a career opportunity. Michelle has already catered for a friend’s 40th Birthday party and aims to work in the catering industry. As an experienced business owner Michelle can see real potential for starting a small catering business. She has a young family and appreciates the flexibility that working for yourself can offer.
Michelle has her own cookery blog spot where she shares her food philosophy and recipes. When describing the best part of the Catering Operations Course Michelle says
“Learning the ins and outs of the Hospitality Industry from the great teachers and the hands on experience gives us confidence”.

Profile Four:

Jessica Clarke studied Hospitality as part of her HSC.
Jessica has gained RPL (recognition of prior learning) for the units she did at school so has not had to complete the same full time program as others in the Wyong TAFE course.
Jessica feels that the course has taught her more about team work in the kitchen. She also enjoys learning more about the Hospitality industry.

Profile Five:

Single Mum of one, Gabe Loftus is a mature student who loves to renovate and fix things. By studying at Wyong TAFE Gabe aims to gain all round knowledge of the Hospitality Industry and gain skills in cookery.“I love the hands on cooking experience in the commercial kitchen. The teachers are great and I am thoroughly enjoying every aspect of this course” said Gabe.

Student Testimonial:

Tina Bell completed the Certificate Three in Nutrition and Dietetics at Wyong TAFE in December 2008.
She quickly found employment as a Supervisor of the Food Services Department at Gosford Hospital, the largest Hospital on the NSW Central Coast.
Tina’s duties include setting up of the food tray lines, entering patient meal selections in to the computer system, handling customer complaints as part of the continuous quality improvement system and working independently to process diet changes for patients in the afternoon shifts.
Tina is also responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the Food Safety System are maintained and that the workplace meets Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and regulations.
During her studies Tina felt the course helped to prove to herself that anything is achievable. Completing the course has increased her self esteem and confidence. She is even thinking of undertaking further study in Nutrition at University level which is possible through the University of Newcastle’s Ourimbah Campus or the Flexible Delivery Program at Charles Sturt University.
